Spray Painted Table & Lamp

Do you remember this beauty I found at Goodwill two weeks ago?

Now, it looks like this:

Here's a closeup of the sanding technique Bradley used so that the paint would adhere:

The fabric on the lamp shade is some leftover from the drapery panels, so the total cost for this project was just $4!  Not too bad.

Onto the table...
Here are the before pictures:

I purchased it at a yard sale for $1.  It fits perfectly by my chair in the library, and I basically just needed an end table that was functional.  $4 was the total for this piece as well.

It's amazing what you can do with a can of spray paint!

  1. Lauren, these look great. I was just wondering if you have ever done anything with a veneer top? It's very hard to find anything solid wood here but I can always find something with a veneer top but I don't know how to work with it. Just thought I would ask.
    I really enjoy your blog!

  2. Thanks, Stephanie! I came across a post on how to paint on laminate by the blog Living with Lindsay. Here is the link: http://livingwithlindsay.com/2009/05/how-to-paint-laminate-furniture.html

Hope that helps! And I hope you can find some fun pieces to paint :)

  3. Hey! Do you do anything to them before spraying them with paint? I have a table I would like to try this on but not sure of the steps! Cute blog! Callie sent me!

  4. For the lamp, I just washed it off really well, and scraped off the cellophane looking stuff that was on it. My husband ended up roughing the surface of the lamp base with sandpaper to give it a textured look and then spray painted it evenly on top.
I did sand the top of the table down pretty well, and any other rough surfaces that I found. I'm not the expert on this, but it worked for these projects! Happy painting!
